Every Sunday at 1:30 - 3:00 PM EST (Scheduled 1st session 9/13-11/15 ).
Course Goals:
• To study the major themes of AP World History from 1065 to the present. Improve English reading and comprehension levels.
• To develop a greater awareness of world events that shaped modern society
Course Objectives:
Hour for each topic that is detailed below. Each lesson will consist of a Power Point Presentation, online class reading and comprehension and lecture.
Homework will be assigned after each lesson and will involve reading additional material, vocabulary development and writing a reflection essay that will articulate topic and content learned.
General Content Topics:
Unit 1: Pre-Renaissance Society Rise of Civilizations, Characteristics of Civilizations, Greek Achievements, Roman Republic, The Rise of Christianity, The Fall of Rome, Feudalism, Crusades, Black Plague
Unit 2: The Renaissance and Reformation Trade, Inventors, Italy & N. Europe, Problems of the Church, Protestant Reformation, Counter-Reformation
Unit 3: Age of Exploration & Absolutism Technology, Opening the World, Columbian Exchange, Atlantic Slave Trade, New Asian Empires; Monarchies of Europe: Spain, France, England, Russia
Unit 4: Age of Enlightenment Scientific Revolution, Age of Enlightenment
Unit 5: Age of Revolutions American and French Revolutions, Napolean, Beginning of the Industrial Revolution
Unit 6: Age of Imperialism Growth of Democracy around the World, Imperialism, Colonization
Unit 7: World War I Total War, Trench Warfare, Treaty of Versailles, Russian Revolution
Unit 8: Interwar Years: Rise of Totalitarianism, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo
Unit 9: World War II WWII, Pacific Campaign, European Campaign, Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Holocaust, Atomic Bomb, Propaganda
Unit 10: Cold War and Beyond Communism, Korean War, Vietnam, Fall of Soviet Union, Future of Democracy, War on Terror, Modern World Issues
Class Instructor
The instructor is an AP U.S. History and AP World History Certified teacher with 14 years of successful teaching experience in the classroom and online.
Many of the instructor’s past students have won college scholarships and approximately 85% have consistently scored a 5 on the AP Exam. Many past students have scored in the top tier on the SAT exams and have qualified to enter top rated colleges…M.I.T. Princeton, Dartmouth, Stanford, USC and Yale.
